Activities & Attractions

There are numerous attractions in the area, all within walking distance from Maple Farm Bed and Breakfast.
Here you can find information about Rabat, Dingli Cliffs, Mdina, Buskett Gardens and the Punic Cart Ruts.

Agrotourism

Once weekly, guests have the opportunity to visit the owner's own vineyard and olive grove among other agritourism attractions in the area.

Rabat

Wander through the streets of the old Roman town of Rabat, with its quaint alleyways, various roman remains and numerous churches and catacombs. Rabat has a long history as a suburb of Mdina, the old capital city of Malta, and it is also the location of the grotto where St Paul is believed to have taken refuge after his shipwreck on Malta, which can be visited as can also the St Paul’s museum and St Paul’s Catacombs and St Agathas’ Catacombs. Rabat has at times been used for shooting films, such as the film Munich.

Dingli Cliffs

Walking further on from Ghar il-Kbir, the impressive Dingli Cliffs (exhibiting in some places all the geological layers of Malta’s sedimentary rock) are reached, from where the most spectacular views will leave the visitor breathless. The highest point on the Maltese islands, about 250 metres above sea level, is marked by the chapel of St Mary Magdalene, perched on the edge of these cliffs. Some dramatic sunsets can be also be enjoyed on late summer evenings. Dingli Cliffs stretch beyond Dingli as far as Ghar Lapsi and Blue Grotto. More enthusiastic walkers will find great scope for exploring the rough and virtually untouched countryside along the cliffs.

Activites and Attractions

Mdina

Just walking through the narrow streets of the Silent City, admiring the architecture and absorbing the peaceful and quiet atmosphere is a pleasant enough experience. A visit to the museums situated in Mdina and the Cathedral will enhance such an experience and to top it all a walk along the bastions will offers the visitor breathtaking and spectacular views of Malta. A lunch or a cup of coffee and a cream cake rounds it off excellently.

Ghar il-Kbir (Clapham Junction)

While visiting Buskett Gardens, a tour of the most famous cart ruts complex in Malta, known as Clapham Junction, and cave dwellings at Ghar il-Kbir is recommended. Perhaps one can find a solution to the mystery of these cart ruts and the equilateral triangles and squares made of limestone lines to be found there. These prehistoric sites are a short walking distance away from Buskett and are open to the public.

Buskett Gardens

Buskett Gardens, Malta’s only real woodland and one of the greenest areas, was planted the Knights as a hunting ground. It boasts a number of fruit-bearing trees, mostly oranges and lemons, as well as various plants and shrubs, and offers an ideal setting for a walk or a picnic. There is a cafe/restaurant, public toilets as well a car park. On the edge of Buskett Gardens is Verdala Place, the official summer residence of the President of Malta. The Palace is not normally open to the public, but Holy Mass (in Maltese) is celebrated in the Chapel every Sunday.
